If you cannot get to the polls on Election Day, November 8, there is still time to request and absentee ballot. An application for an New York State absentee ballot may be submitted to your county Board of Elections up to seven days before the election — which means you have until Tuesday, November 1 to submit your application.

Countdown Until the Election
NYSUT’s 2016 Voter Guide, available online, includes a complete list of union-endorsed candidates as recommended by our local presidents and Political Action Committee, and approved by the Board of Directors. The guide explores critical races and gives the rationale for many endorsements. Take the time to read and consider this information before you cast your ballot on Nov. 8.

Marilyn Fishstein, retired Northport Middle School English teacher, passed away last week. Her family will be holding a private funeral on Monday, October 17th.
A.C. Moore Celebrates Teachers with the Kids In Need Foundation
The A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts Stores is offering $25,000 in new Teacher Grants for Innovation and Creativity. The company will be awarding $100 gift cards to 250 teachers for the purpose of funding project-based, hands-on lessons that incorporate crafts into science, math, STEM/STEAM, social studies or language arts to enhance the learning experiences of their students.

In the State of New York the last day to register to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election is next Friday, October 14. To register, download the New York State Voter Registration Form deliver it to the nearest DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles). Questions?
