A Note from Jerry Bradnick

Two weeks ago we invited members to let us know about what they have been doing for the next issue of our newsletter, and to share on the website. Jerry Brandnick not only wanted to share with our members, but he’d also love to hear from you. His email can be found in our Online Member Directory. The Directory is password protected – if you need the password please send an email, with including your full name, to [email protected].

I’m about to turn 90 but feel like I’m 70.  Have great memories about some of the great staff I had at Larkfield and 5th. Ave.  Many students and staff have contacted me over the years.  Lost my great wife Dorothy five years ago. She loved her years in the Time Out Room at NHS. Of the fine staff I hired, perhaps Chris Pendergast was one of the best.  We were close friends until his recent passing.  I support the UTN-R scholarship program each year.  Still play golf 2-3 times per week.

An Invitation to Get Involved

We received this letter from the Outreach Coordinator for Girls on the Run Long Island. Looks like something that might be of interest to some of our members who want to continue working with young people in retirement.

Dear Retired Teachers of Northport,

I am reaching out with an opportunity for your members to get involved in their community. Girls on the Run is a national nonprofit with a local council based in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. Our program teaches girls in grades 3-8 the importance of and connection between social-emotional and physical wellness. Volunteer coaches meet with their team of girls twice a week for 8 weeks, and celebrate achieving their goals at the end-of-the-season 5k!

We are always looking for new coaches to bring this program to more girls on Long Island, and believe your members are the perfect fit! In preparation for the fall season, we are meeting with interested community members who are excited about empowering the future leaders of our tomorrow.

We invite you to sign up for a brief zoom meeting with our Director Doreen using this link: https://calendly.com/doreen-dunne-gotr/15min. In the meantime, please feel free to check out our website at https://www.gotrlongisland.org

Kind Regards,–

Brianna Sison-Gilmore
