Sad News …

Retired Bellerose Avenue teacher Lois Cronin passed away on Monday, July 13, after a long illness. Lois, 84, was predeceased by her husband Drew and is survived by her son Drew Cronin, Jr., three grandchildren, a brother and three sisters. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Lois was born and raised in Concord, New Hampshire, and in 2013 she and husband left Long Island to back to New Hampshire. Always an avid reader, in retirement she was a member of the Baker Free Library Book Club and active member of the Concord High School Class of 1953 Scholarship Committee. She was also a volunteer at the Pierce Manse, the historic home of Franklin Pierce, 14th President of the United States.

A graveside services were held at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord on Saturday, July 18. Donations in Lois’s memory may be made to the Baker Free Library in Bow or to the Pierce Brigade to support the upkeep of the Pierce Manse. The R-UTN needs your help! We need a recording secretary to take notes and write-up the minutes of board meetings.  We meet 5 to 6 times a year in the Northport and East Northport Libraries. -Minutes are written up in bullet format and typically run about a page/page and a half  and then emailed to members of the board.  Join us – guide the R-UTN  to meet needs and interests of our members. Middleville / Northport Middle Update

The Northport – East Northport Board of Education has announced the completion of the COMPREHENSIVE INVESTIGATION REPORT that was commissioned to evaluate the ongoing environmental concerns surrounding Northport Middle School, formerly Middleville Middle School. A remote worksop is being offered to inform the community on Thursday, June 25, at 7:00 p.m. Information follows:

WHEN:           Thursday, June 25, 2020 – 7:00 p.m.

DETAILS:      A Special Board of Education Workshop will consist of a presentation from the Environmental Consultant firm P.W. Grosser. The Board of Education and the public will have an opportunity to ask questions of the consultants. 

It is expected that the Board will accept the recommendations from the P.W. Grosser at the July 9, 2020 Board Meeting. The Comprehensive Investigation Report can be found here or by visiting the District’s website.

Northport-East Northport Budget Passed

The school budget for the 2020 – 2021 school year passed by an overwhelming majority of the district voters, 5,241 to 1,545. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all votes were cast by absentee ballot.

In the election for school board members, current Board President David Badanes won re-election, and Donna McNaughton was newly elected to the board.
