Helping Those in Need

Covid 19 and the Corona virus has impacted us all, but it is especially hard on those in those less fortunate. NYSUT is running an Island wide virtual food drive to make sure our fellow Long Islanders are not going hungry, especially our children and students. The Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank serves the needs of the Long Island community. Click Here to visit NYSUTs donation page and make your contribution to help our neighbors.

Sad News

We have learned that Charles Scott, retired Northport High School English teacher, passed away due to complications with Covid-19 on April 1. Charles is survived by his four daughter, their husband and four grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. There will be no memorial service for now. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you please stay home to flatten the curve.

In announcing his death, his daughter Kyla Arena wrote a moving tribute to her father, which we have posted it on our Memorial webpage.

Advice on Safe Grocery Shopping

Watch this Youtube video for excellent advice on what to do when you get home from grocery shopping – with the caveat that the CDC reports that you need to leave a bleach solution on surfaces for at least four minutes for it to kill the virus.

If you run out of household cleaning products you can make your own by adding 4 teaspoons of bleach to a quart (32 oz.) of water – or 1/3 cup per gallon. Mix the solution in a spray bottle and you are good to go. Visit the CDC Website for more more information.
