The Community Action Committee is a service committee that endeavors to connect R-UTN members with volunteer organizations, worthy local charities, and group “field trips.”

Giving Back to Our Community

During this very difficult time many families are in need of help. All around the country neighborhood food banks are working overtime to help their communities. In Northport the Food Pantry run by the Ecumenical Lay Council is giving out gift cards to IGA and Stop and Shop. In East Northport the Society of Saint Vincent Di Paul is giving out bags of food at the curb, and when food runs out they are also distributing gift cards. The R-UTN has made generous contributions to both organizations.

A Way to Help …

Are you looking for a way to help out during the Coronavirus criss. If you have a sewing machine your can pitch in and make desperately needed facemasks for healthcare workers.

Northport High School teacher Robin O’Neill-Gonzales’ and her Fashion Club, Girl Scouts and friends in the community are coming together to make 1,000 beautifully crafted handmade masks by 4/20 to be donated to Huntington & VA Hospitals. Want to help? Text (631) 398-0061.

Helping Those in Need

Covid 19 and the Corona virus has impacted us all, but it is especially hard on those in those less fortunate. NYSUT is running an Island wide virtual food drive to make sure our fellow Long Islanders are not going hungry, especially our children and students. Northport Middle School Update

On January 9 over one hundred residents, staff members and retirees attended a meeting of the Northport – East Northport UFSD Board of Education to listen and respond to the report by the Board Subcommittee on Northport Middle School Soil Testing. John Kobel, retired Middleville/Northport Middle School teacher, spoke at length at the meeting, and prepared an update for the R-UTN membership.
