Support ALS Ride for Life

The ALS Ride for Life of Long Island, and R-UTN member Chris Pendergast, will host their annual Honoree Recognition Benefit on March 28.

R-UTN member Chris Pendergast is the founder and president of ALS Ride for Life. Over the years he has worked tirelessly to fund research and patient care for people stricken with this devastating condition. Last year another of our members, Glenn Baldwin, was an honoree, and this year Christopher Lynch, a graduate of Northport High School, will be among the individuals honored.

Tickets for the event are $75 per person until February 21st., and $85 after that date. To purchase tickets, make a donation or for additional information, visit the organization’s website, alsrideforlife.org or call Marilyn Sloan, Director, at 631-444-1292.

Calling all Middleville Retirees…

A documentary film by Left turn Productions and producer Keif Roberts called Sick School will have a free showing on January 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of the Bellport Area, 471 Atlantic Ave., Bellport NY.

This is a video about Frank P. Long elementary school in Bellport, which is located just south of the Brookhaven Land Fill off of Sunrise Highway. Like Northport Middle School, this school has been plagued by illnesses and deaths among teachers, staff and students. The parent group from Northport Middle School has been working closely with the teacher group of this school and are now called sister schools. Adrienne Esposito from Citizens Canpaign for the Environment is now working with the Bellport school.

There will be a question and answer period after the film is over and the teacher’s group has graciously asked any of us from Northport Middle School to come up on stage and talk about what we have been going through since our school opened in 1956. We would like as many past and current teachers, staff and parents to come to this free screening as possible.
