2017 Constitutional Convention Ballot Question

THIS AFFECTS EVERY PUBLIC EMPLOYEE IN NEW YORK STATE
The 2017 election will include a Constitutional Convention Ballot Question.
It is important the every voter understands the facts about what a Constitutional Convention really means
.

Under the New York State Constitution (Article 19, §2), every 20 years the people of the Empire State are asked a seemingly simple ballot question; “Shall there be a convention to revise the constitution and amend same?”

These twelve simple words that will appear on the top of the ballot on November 7, 2017, will have a huge impact on not just NYSUT members, but every citizen of the state. From teachers and school staff, to the children who will be entering pre-K the very next year, all of us will have a stake in the outcome of this important vote.

Sign the MAC petition telling billionaires and legislators that public schools are NOT FOR SALE!

Opponents of public education — led by a handful of hedge fund and Wall Street billionaires — are trying to cash in on the millions they spent on NYS Senate elections at the expense of public schools in local communities. And they gave millions more to Governor Cuomo.

Their first goal: starve the public school system that serves nearly 90% of our students and privatize education, through subsidies to private and parochial schools and through privately-run charter schools. Please take a few minutes to read the full article on the MAC site and sign the petition.
