R-UTN Supports our Community

Out of concern for the extra strain on community support resources caused by the current Federal shutdown, the Executive Board voted to make the following $1,000 donations:  in memory of Bill Hall (volunteer) to the Family Services Leagues HIHI program providing shelter and other services to the home less;  Ecumenical Lay Council Food Pantry and the  Homeless Vets organization.  In addition a donation to support UTN President Stacey Weisberg’s participation in the Purple Project run raising funds for pancreatic cancer – she is running in memory of our late colleague, Linda Goodman. 

Sad News …

Gary Nagel, long time Northport High School teacher, passed away on January 18 surrounded by his family. Gary taught both math and business courses, coordinated the work-study program and was the yearbook advisor for many years. In retirement Gary spent his time golfing and visiting family in Michigan and Las Vegas. He is survived by his sons Jeffery and Allan, and five grandsons.

A funeral mass will be said on Wednesday, January 23 at Saints Philip and James Roman Catholic Church in St. James. Internment will follow on Saturday, January 26 in Troy, Michigan.

The family suggests donations in Gary’s memory to EPIC Long Island, 1500 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, NY 11554 – www.epicli.org.

Sad News …

On the evening of December 30, 2018 Kathey Stachecki, the wife retired Northport teacher Peter Stachecki,  passed away peacefully
after a very long illness.

Friends and relatives will gather at the Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, in Northport on Friday January 4th from 2-5 pm and from 7- 9 pm.
Those who wish to share memories may wish to do so at a special session beginning at 8 pm .
