Annual Fall Event

Each year, as the school year begins, the Retired-United Teachers of Northport traditionally come together for an Annual Picnic. This year we are making a change. On Tuesday, September 10 at 12 noon the R-UTN is hosting an indoor luncheon at The View at Crab Meadow Golf Course.

The View is a perfect setting for our “back-to-school” get together. The facility is indoors, so we don’t have to worry about weather; the bathrooms are easily accessible; and we will all enjoy a delicious buffet lunch.

Golf carts will be available for transport from the parking lot to the restaurant, and entertainment will be provided by our very own Glenn Baldwin. We will not be having an auction, but we will have a 50/50 raffle for our scholarship fund, and between courses we will vote on a slate of Executive Board Officers for 2024–2025.

As in the past, there is no charge for members, although there will be a cash bar, and guests are welcome for a charge of $20.

On a blistering hot August afternoon, a small, fun group of Northport retirees found cool air and good company and conversation at Napper Tandy’s in Northport. Tasty hors d’oeuvres and cold drinks added to a good time. Mary Moore, longtime Northport – East Northport UFSD Fifth Avenue teacher, passed away on July 29 at the age of 92. Mary is survived by four daughters and their spouses – Leslie Zeniou (Andrico), Susanne Kleczka (Mark), Kathryn Dunleavy (Drew) and Barbara Long (James); ten grandchildren and her sister Lillian Pashayan.

Visiting Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, NY Sunday August 4 from 3-7 pm. Funeral Service on Monday at 11 am at the funeral home, with burial of the ashes to immediately following at Northport Rural Cemetery.

Henry (Hank) Hull, retired Middleville math teacher, passed away surrounded by his family, on July 26 at the age of 91. Hank taught in Northport-East Northport UFSD for 35 years, was an adjunct assistant professor at Suffolk Community College and Dowling College, and was a founding member of the Continental Mathematics League. He and Eileen, his wife of 64 years, had four children – Jacqueline Hull, Suzanne Wolff, Christine Cognetti, and the late Lawrence Hull. One of Hank’s greatest joys was his seven grandchildren.

Hank was a veteran of the US Air Force, a member of the Eaton’s Neck Fire Department, and an ex-Captain and lifetime member of the Port Jefferson Fire Department. In later years enjoyed a crossword puzzle each day, and he had a passion for poetry, leaving hundreds of poems for family and friends.

Visitation at the Bryant Funeral Home, 411 Old Town Road in East Setauket, on Thursday, August 1, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, with a Firematic Service at 8 pm. A mass, followed by celebration of life, will be held Friday, August 2, at 11:30 am at Caroline Episcopal Church, 1 Dyke Rd, East Setauket, NY. Burial at Cemetery of the Highlands on Saturday, August 3 at 1 pm.

Donations may be made in Hank’s name to the Caroline Episcopal Church at https://www.carolinechurch.net.
